Hi! My name is Taylor. I am five years old and going to kindergarten. I live with my momma and daddy, my sister Jenny and my brother Justin. I am a bilateral amputee due to Meningococcemia.

When I was one year old I was taken to a local hospital with fevers, sudden onset of seizures and a rash that developed after the seizures. I was treated with IV antibiotics and IV fluids. I was then transferred to a larger, better equipped hospital where I spent six weeks in Intensive Care followed by three weeks in pediatrics and rehab.

I had a stormy course while at the hospital. The rash I had was caused from an inflammation of the blood vessels of my skin and all of my major organ systems as a result of the bacteria with which I was infected. As a result of the inflammation the blood supply to my lower legs, as well as to the fingers on my right hand, was completely shut off. Additionally, as a result of the purple rash the areas of the skin that turned purple also had loss of blood supply, and the skin began to slough off. As the skin had died, as well as the fingertips, and legs had died, they had to be amputated.

I have two pair of legs. "Big legs" that I wear to dance and school in the afternoon and my "play legs" which are my favorite! I wear them to school in the morning and outside to play. I also wear my "play legs" to cheer. I love to play with my friends at school and hold my rabbits. I really enjoy skating. I have used both pair of legs for skating, but I prefer my play legs. I also like going au naturel.

When I grow up, I want to be prosthetist and make legs for little girls as Dr. Scott did for me.
